Board of County Commissioners Declares May as Art Month Walton County

SANTA ROSA BEACH, FL – (Apr. 23, 2025) At the April 22 Board of County Commissioners (BCC) meeting, the Walton County Board of County Commissioners officially proclaimed May as Art Month Walton County, highlighting the county’s ongoing commitment to fostering the arts, supporting local artists, and enriching the cultural landscape of the community.

Commissioner Donna Johns shared her thoughts on the importance of the Arts in Walton County, stating, “The Arts are central to Walton County’s identity, enriching our community culturally, socially, and economically. Art Month celebrates the creativity that brings us together and enhances the quality of life for all who live in and visit our county. We are proud to support the Cultural Arts Alliance and all who contribute to the vibrant artistic spirit of our county.”

Art Month Walton County is a collaborative initiative led by the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County (CAA), bringing together a variety of art-focused events throughout the month of May. The celebration includes the Dine + Dive fundraiser for the Underwater Museum of Art, the 37th Annual ArtsQuest Fine Arts Festival, Longleaf Writers Conference, Digital Graffiti at Alys Beach, Legally Blonde at Emerald Coast Theatre Company, special gatherings from Emerald Coast Storytellers, Sinfonia Salutes, and much more. Art Month unites artists, organizations, businesses, and audiences in a shared mission to showcase high-quality, diverse arts experiences across the region.

Commissioners unanimously approved the designation during Tuesday's meeting, recognizing the important role the arts play in economic development, tourism, education, and overall quality of life in Walton County.

“We are honored and excited that the Walton County Board of County Commissioners continues to support Art Month Walton County,” said Jennifer Steele, President and CEO of the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County. “This official designation amplifies the value of the Arts in our community and helps us spotlight the many talented artists, cultural experiences, and creative opportunities available to both residents and visitors throughout the month of May and beyond.”

The proclamation serves as an invitation for all to engage in and support the diverse artistic offerings happening countywide.
