Okaloosa County School District Celebrates Niceville High School and Fort Walton Beach High School's Inclusion on the 2024 AP School Honor Roll

The Okaloosa County School District is thrilled to announce that both Niceville High School and Fort Walton Beach High School have been recognized on the 2024 College Board AP School Honor Roll! This prestigious honor underscores the exceptional work of our schools in providing an Advanced Placement (AP) program that achieves remarkable results and expands access to college-level coursework for all students.

 

What is the AP School Honor Roll?

The AP School Honor Roll is awarded to schools with AP programs that foster a college-going culture, offer pathways for students to earn college credit, and enhance college readiness. Schools are awarded at four levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Both Niceville High School and Fort Walton Beach High School earned the Silver distinction, acknowledging their achievements and dedication to high academic standards.

 

Criteria for Recognition

To qualify for the AP School Honor Roll, schools must meet criteria based on the most recent graduating class. These requirements, grounded in research linking AP participation to positive college outcomes, include:

 

• College Culture: At least 40% of the graduating cohort must have taken at least one AP Exam during high school.

• College Credit: At least 25% of the graduating cohort must have scored a 3 or higher on at least one AP Exam.

• College Optimization: At least 2% of the graduating cohort must have taken five or more AP Exams, with at least one exam taken in the 9th or 10th grade, ensuring AP participation across multiple grades.
